Each degree of the Knights of Columbus is associated with a particular virtue. Patriotism is the virtue of the Fourth Degree. Consequently, the Fourth Degree is known as the Patriotic Degree.
The first Fourth Degree exemplification was instituted in New York City on February 22, 1900. Today, there are approximately 300,000 Fourth Degree Sir Knights in many countries throughout the world such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Guam, Saipan, Ukraine, and Poland. In order to be eligible to join the Fourth Degree, a Brother Knight must be a member of the Third Degree, be a member of the Knights of Columbus in good standing, be an exemplary Catholic, and be of sound citizenship of one's country. The Fourth Degree is an regarded as an honorary title with regalia of tuxedos, capes, chapeaus, and swords but should be considered in terms of faithful service to the Catholic Church and the country, the goals of the Fourth Degree may be summarized as the promotion of the ideals of Catholicism and patriotism side by side. |
It is not unusual to find Fourth Degree Knights participating in Church events, in the community, standing up for the unborn at Pro-Life events, and commemorating the sacrifices of others on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. As a Fourth Degree Knight you will have the opportunity to become part of our Assembly's Color Corps. who are recognized by the distinctive attire they wear. Members of our Color corps participate in both religious and civic events. |
